Hide ya kids, and hide ya wives, because the serial killer Joss Whedon has struck again. The case had been left unsolved until recently when hundreds were killed in what was originally called a “factory accident” at the site of a cabin in a remote section of undisclosed woods.

However, his most recent killing spree included beloved friend and co-worker Phil Coulson, unforgivably stabbed through the heart mid-battle. There will be a funeral Monday in Washington, D.C. and flowers can be sent to Phil Coulson c/o SHIELD. Any further address is not needed.

Please be careful and cautious when leaving your home- Whedon is notorious for killing at the drop of a dime, and also suddenly and without warning.

IGNFF: What has been the difficulty in getting cast members for the Buffy and Angel commentaries?

WHEDON: I don't know. I don't know. You know, it wasn't really broached early on. I think we're getting more sophisticated about how this is done as DVDs have established themselves. DVDs of TV shows have established themselves just in the last couple years ... the only time I ever did one with a cast member was when Marti and Seth and I did one together. That was of course insane, because it was Seth.

My problem has always been, what happens is that you get the corporations basically enjoying the titillation of the thing instead of wanting to baldly talk about it… We really wanted to hit it in the face and say, well, what does it mean? Is it wrong to pay somebody to have sex? How wrong is it to try to create your own perfect experience? When is it appalling? And when is it a part of people becoming increasingly incapable of dealing with other people and living these incredibly insular lives?

My son is almost five. He is just beginning to understand what I do as a concept. If I drove a construction crane he’d have understood it at birth. And he’d probably think I was King of all the Lands in my fine yellow crane. But writing – especially writing a movie or show, where people other than the writer are all saying things that they’re clearly (to an unschooled mind) making up right then – is something to get your head around.

The show was not canceled suddenly — I knew that the show would not go past seven years, that I could not go past seven years. I had originally intended to go only five, but once it was clear that we were going to do more than five, both Sarah [Michelle Gellar] and I, and all the other actors, knew that seven was it. But the idea of doing movies about some of the ancillary characters got me really excited, because I love those actors and I love that world. That kind of fell through, but when I started working on the comic… I sketched out this sort of broad arc that would connect everything. Now it will probably only appear on the comic-book pages, but it will be really well drawn. George Jeanty (The American Way) is the artist.

Well, I, as a showrunner… (but with no show… If I have no show, am I a showrunner? What would Jubal Early say?) Anyhoo I’m a tirribly impahtant Hollyville muckity so my opinion counts oodles. And I think this will be very cool. Let’s make our (unsharpened) point. I seriously want to spend a day wading in actual pencils with a big ol’ snowshovel. And I want the Execs to understand that forcing one show off the air can rouse the public to make themselves heard in a fairly dramatic fashion, but forcing ALL of them off the air… well, might just be a tetch more dramatical-er. Now you all kinda got your own Union. And it’s time to strike.

TVGuide.com: Why did you decide to do an entire eighth season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in a comic-book series?

Joss Whedon: Well, I'm not that bright. I keep thinking that I have all this free time that I don't have. It started going in my brain — "Wouldn't it be fun if... " and, "You could... " while the other voice was saying, "It's death. I'm out of control. I'm already writing." So I basically said, "We could do something and for once we could make it canon. We could make it officially what happened after the end of the show." Let Buffy not only address certain themes that slipped between the cracks of the show, but also really be a comic book. Take the template of the show, but not so religiously that they're all standing in the Magic Box, talking, for 10 pages.

The point is twofold. The first is that we expect this to take a long time. We want to make an impression NOW, but we also want to keep thinking of ways to spread awareness and keep you all engaged and, frankly, entertained. Because the second point is that there was no one in that room who didn’t understand that they were there BECAUSE OF YOU, because you guys have already proven yourselves not just dedicated fans but an active, forceful community. Take a moment to be all up in yourself. Now get over yourself. Now doubt yourself. Now hug yourself. Now touch your knee – Hah! Didn’t say “Simon says”. Like, ever. FOOLS! It’s you unauthorized-knee-touching fools who are proving that the internet is indeed the line in the sand (“…must be drawn Heah! This fah! No fuhther!”), for it’s the one medium the congloms don’t control. Televised news is largely ignoring us, the print media is eating Nick Counter’s astonishing lies like candy they get paid to eat, but you upon the ether… you haven’t been silent and you can’t be silenced. Go ahead. Touch that knee. Simon be damned.

My ideas are always slightly left-of-center. I like to think that I’m a populist entertainer, but I’m a little bit idiosyncratic and sometimes the networks wouldn’t really roll with that. I was trying to – this was during the strike – make a deal with a big Internet company that had expressed interest in doing some low-budget production, and I laid out these ideas that I had, that I thought they might be interested in, the last of which was “Dr. Horrible.” I said, “And here’s the one you’re definitely not going to want to do.” And they said, “Yes. We don’t.” It became clear that nothing was going to happen with this company before the strike was over. So I got more and more obsessed with “Dr. Horrible” and asked my wife, “Honey, would it be O.K. if—” And she said, “Hells yeah.” We just eliminated the middle man. Or actually, the top man.

The thing is that ultimately if I feel that I didn’t give it my best you know then I’m going to feel bad about it and I should whether or not the audience likes it or not. If the audience loves it and I feel like I could have done better, I’m going to be okay. If the audience hates it and I feel that I put every ounce into it that I could then I’m going to be okay. If they go. “this seems weak” and I agree with them, I’ll probably go into a coma state… I’m a writer… really just a big neurotic guy.
